come find me,

It’s the curse of the artist to have their work constantly churning in their head and to need to keep tinkering in the pursuit of perfect. I think it perfect as it is, but of course I do not have the vision in my head that you are nurturing. It will be interesting to see what transpires 😊
I am gearing myself up for my daughters Fine Art Degree Show, the culmination of 4 years work at University in just under two weeks. That she is gearing much harder is a given. The gearing for me is the fixed smile as I glide around installations that I know before I even get on the plane will be beyond me and not at all what I consider Art to be. She assures me that modern art is about the thought process and feeling behind the piece and not necessarily what you see. Don’t tell her but I simply don’t get that it is art. Fortunately her own work does appeal to me and not simply because she is my daughter!
Glad you can like hers. I find it so confusing some of the things they call art. I understand that the concept of “art” is a fluid thing, but my concept of art is not so wet and wobbly. 🙂 I guess maybe I should appreciate the fact that soeone went to the effort of visualising it, creating it – but, really, it just doesn’t cut it for me. Don’t know if you follow “feeding on Folly” – but that is where the post was, there were some good points made, but I was thinking this morning as I drove to work, based on some of “definitions of art” a serial killer could describe their killing as art! – NOT a good thought to have driving to work.
But you have a point, about the serial killer. I will find ‘feeding on Folly’ … I think I would enjoy it. Art must be fluid to progress just as science must but some of it is deplorably short of valuable. In my opinion. YOu might laugh at this – some years ago when my eldest daughter’s best friend was graduating Art School he rang and invited her to the Graduation Show. He said ‘You won’t understand my installation. I can’t say I understand it myself’ … he got a 1st. Fortunately he has gone on to become a commercial film maker (promos for bands mostly) of some note and I DO understand his work mostly in that context but honestly!!

Thanks Dick. They do say there is a doppleganger for all of us, maybe they just might be of the opposite gender, and I would be complete within myself 😉

That’s a lot of love CJ, and I kind of like that 🙂 I have kept nearly everything that I have written, mostly I don’t re-write them, but this one spoke to me yesterday (and again today , actually) so I tweaked it a teeny bit, but I think it might get a little more re-work. Thanks for your lovely compliment.
