New Fraction

somewhere out there,
you may be.
walking around,
the other half of my love,
the other half of my life.
come find me,
soon.

  1. That is just how I like to think of my life at the moment. Very comforting

    1. Glad you find comfort in it. The words have changed over the 30 years, as has it’s meaning, but that is what life does.

      1. Yeah. That is what life does.

    1. Some things are, even though the meaning of this has changed a little. The original was a little bleaker and sadder.

    1. Oh, you flatter me Osyth (keep doing it 🙂 ). I thought today, driving home, that I could have made it more minimalist, and still conveyed the meaning – so I may revise the fraction even further.

      1. It’s the curse of the artist to have their work constantly churning in their head and to need to keep tinkering in the pursuit of perfect. I think it perfect as it is, but of course I do not have the vision in my head that you are nurturing. It will be interesting to see what transpires 😊

        1. Not sure I am an artist, but sometimes the urge to make things better cannot be denied. I don’t usually re-write (basically, because I am lazy and I do mostly like what I have already written), but I have an itch with this one. 🙂

          1. Then it must be scratched. And I think you ARE an artist if writing and particularly poetry are arts which I rather hope they are!

            1. 🙂 The question of what art is came up on another blog I follow – it was interesting to read what others think about it. Not sure I finally agreed with some of them, but I am a teeny bit picky about my “art” likes.

              1. I am gearing myself up for my daughters Fine Art Degree Show, the culmination of 4 years work at University in just under two weeks. That she is gearing much harder is a given. The gearing for me is the fixed smile as I glide around installations that I know before I even get on the plane will be beyond me and not at all what I consider Art to be. She assures me that modern art is about the thought process and feeling behind the piece and not necessarily what you see. Don’t tell her but I simply don’t get that it is art. Fortunately her own work does appeal to me and not simply because she is my daughter!

                1. Glad you can like hers. I find it so confusing some of the things they call art. I understand that the concept of “art” is a fluid thing, but my concept of art is not so wet and wobbly. 🙂 I guess maybe I should appreciate the fact that soeone went to the effort of visualising it, creating it – but, really, it just doesn’t cut it for me. Don’t know if you follow “feeding on Folly” – but that is where the post was, there were some good points made, but I was thinking this morning as I drove to work, based on some of “definitions of art” a serial killer could describe their killing as art! – NOT a good thought to have driving to work.

                  1. But you have a point, about the serial killer. I will find ‘feeding on Folly’ … I think I would enjoy it. Art must be fluid to progress just as science must but some of it is deplorably short of valuable. In my opinion. YOu might laugh at this – some years ago when my eldest daughter’s best friend was graduating Art School he rang and invited her to the Graduation Show. He said ‘You won’t understand my installation. I can’t say I understand it myself’ … he got a 1st. Fortunately he has gone on to become a commercial film maker (promos for bands mostly) of some note and I DO understand his work mostly in that context but honestly!!

    1. Thanks Dick. They do say there is a doppleganger for all of us, maybe they just might be of the opposite gender, and I would be complete within myself 😉

  3. I love that you’ve kept your poems from 30 years ago, and I love that you rework them. Also, I love this. Beautiful.

    1. That’s a lot of love CJ, and I kind of like that 🙂 I have kept nearly everything that I have written, mostly I don’t re-write them, but this one spoke to me yesterday (and again today , actually) so I tweaked it a teeny bit, but I think it might get a little more re-work. Thanks for your lovely compliment.

    1. Love that thought, thanks Brian. I’ll be keeping my ears open to the Universe, but in all honesty I’d probably hide in my bathroom, cause 13+ years is a looooong time.
