      Hugh, I wish you all those things too. We had a very hot Christmas Day – 36 degrees – so I did the sensible thing and stayed inside, played games and ate good food in moderate proportions and enjoyed my time with my girls.

    Right back at you lovely lady! By the way, here in France le vieille de Noel is the main event. We start shortly with an appero and will eat our way slowly through a huge meal which will end with les treize desserts close to midnight. The really clever bit is that le Pere de Noel will slink into the house whilst we are occupied and leave our presents which will open after the meal. Sated and delighted we will then fall into bed and take it pretty easy tomorrow (though we will doubtless continue to eat and drink because, after all we are English and we have to celebrate Christmas Day too!)
