My Wood Addiction
I can’t say when my addiction to wood truly started, all I know is that I started incorporating it into some of my Resin Nature Art and the I fell in love. I was drawn to all the “imperfect” wood, the pieces in the back rooms, the warped slabs, the seconds, those pieces with voids, cracks, and wonky broken bark edges.
All these things spoke to me of the life of the tree, and it was beautiful and I wanted to take it all home and reassure it that it was loved and admired for it’s true shape. I’m not much of a one for straight edges, and even though the timber is still beautiful I am not a fan of man made straight edged boards, they kind of make me feel sad.

Anyway, hoarding wood eventually led me to buying a lathe, which has opened up a world of fun. I find it ridiculously soothing, and almost zen-like, to stand behind a machine that spins a chunk of wood very fast and then stick a sharp tool into that piece of wood, making chips and sawdust and hopefully some nice bowl or jar at the end. I like to think that the tree would be happy to be used well.

Here’s a few of my current favourite pieces.
