Vesuvius

I am the skin that’s stretched
unsightly
the bond that binds too tightly

I am the back that breaks
under the straw
believing I can carry more

I am the wire that sings
with tension
full of false pretensions

I am human
I am flawed
Why do I expect I should be more?

I love this poem. It’s come at the right time for me too. Oh, who am I kidding? I’ve been feeling overdrawn for a while now… I don’t think this poem could come at the wrong time! 😉

Thanks for the reblog and the lovely comment Marigold, Good to know others can understand that feeling too (although bad that they do feel that way). 🙂

It’s a lovely poem. It reminds me how Bilbo Baggins said he feels like ‘butter spread over too much bread’. You have that way with words where it sounds like a phrase or metaphor that’s existed for ages because you’ve been able to cut to the heart of the matter with such visual comparisons. I wouldn’t be surprised if I start thinking something like ‘I’m just wire singing with false pretensions’ when I’m bullshitting myself & ignoring how tired I am.

        Your words:
“I wouldn’t be surprised if I start thinking something like ‘I’m just wire singing with false pretensions’ when I’m bullshitting myself & ignoring how tired I am.”

Yep, you’ve got it exactly! Thanks for your very kind comment, now sticking pin in swollen head 🙂
