Emotography – Week 29/2016

Mental (2)

Regret

This is a kitten we fostered last weekend.  We nicknamed her “Mental”.  She had no concept of gentle play, those claws were used to full power. The sight and sound of her galloping through the house was like a rampaging fluffy slipper crossed with a belligerent rhinoceros. She never slept during the day, but constantly zig-zagged in front of  your feet when you walked. She climbed everything.   I have never met such a hyperactive, insomniac kitten.

She tried, tried really hard, to be adorable.  She sidled sweetly, and walking sideways on four legs has got to be a hard thing to do to amuse people, she rubbed vigorously around your legs purring, but woe to you if you picked her up – those claws soon came into action.  She spat, hissed and showed those claws to our cat , the very placid Limpet, and then added insult to injury by trying to eat Limpet’s dinner.

Much as we tried to bond with her – she declined to be loved for anything longer than 0.5 of a second.  Regretfully we took her back on Monday. I hope she finds the right home, it just wasn’t ours.

    1. I do to. She was “on Loan” from the local Vets where her 5 siblings are also. Hopefully they will all eventually find the right home.

        1. Nope, have decided that our remaining cat will like it better to be alone.

  3. You tried to make a home for her but it’s better to feel regret now rather than anger and dislike later. My post this week is here: http://wp.me/s2N0qn-maternal

  5. So sad that it didn’t work out with this little cat. There are so many cat’s left behind by people who don’t care at all, it is so lamentable. I sure hope it will find the right place eventually. Lovely picture though!

This is my contribution for this weeks event, I hope you enjoy it:

  6. Claudette, I got cold feet about my original post for this week because the child isn’t mine. I’ve reposted here: http://wp.me/s2N0qn-maternal

    1. No probs, have fixed the link. It is always hard to know what to do with pics of people, isn’t it.

  7. Many many years ago I brought home a black cat to replace (impossible) my beautiful orange boy Radar. I called her Razors. She hated me. I was at my wits end when the old lady 5 doors away asked me if she could have her ‘she’s such a sweet ‘eart, so gentle and loving’. Choice made. By Razors. I am sure Mental will find the right human and you will find the right cat very soon.

    1. Thanks Osyth. It is hard to replace an Orange, and we have decided that we won’t. Limpet is our remaining Tabby cat (6 years old), and she will live out her old age in gentle solitude, and rule in peace.

      1. Cats are so particular – much less simple to bond than dogs. I have had several over the years ending with a pair of brothers we had as kittens and named Crunchy and Boost after Chocolate bars since they came from Cadbury, the name of the most familiar chocolate manufacturer in Britain. Crunchy was hit and killed by a car when he was 6 months and we decided not to replace him. As it turned out, when Boost eventually died many, many years later I couldn’t face any others so that is the story of how (for now) I just have a dog (though at that point there were actually 5 dogs). When we are settled I would like another cat but it has very big puss boots to fill and I sense you have the same with Orange …. Impossible to replace and a mighty abyss to fill 💖💫

        1. Yes. Both of us are actually allergic to cats, their scratches and their dander, so we need a dignified cat that likes the occasional pat and scratch, (with immediate hand washing afterwards, but doesn’t scratch. Rara was a wonderful girl, and it is hard to think of any other cat taking her place. I’m sure I shall never have another cat that follows me around every time I venture out the door.
Love the names you gave them, Cadbury is my favourite chocolate. 🙂

  9. Never say never. Fluffy hated Mink at first but it did her the power of good to be forced out of her old ways and made a bit fiestier. Doesn’t always work out that way so maybe we were lucky. And Mink did love us from day 1 – probably because we fed her when she was hungry and Tom let her sleep on his bed.

    1. 🙂 none of that sleeping on the bed in our house – too much sneezing.
